Application
OBM is applicable to any business environment in which making money,
creating wealth, delivering quality products and services, and recruiting
and retaining the best people are desired.
An OBM system exists in many varying forms and varying degrees
– all dependant on the optimal configuration for a particular
business.
In its purest form, OBM is providing all information to all team
members. In some situations this is not practical, or the business
is not ready for an OBM system.
That does not mean that some of the benefits of an OBM system
cannot be achieved now.
Certain elements of the OBM process can be adopted without implementing
a full OBM system - “mini-games” for example. A mini-game
involves targeting specific issues or problems within the organisation,
designing a game to correct it, establishing appropriate reports
to monitor it, and putting in place an incentive scheme, thereby
creating “ownership”. In this way team members become
interested in, and can begin to experience, OBM.
